As committed Christians all of our adult lives, we have sought active, dedicated churches with each move we have made. We decided to join First United Methodist-Peoria eight years ago because we got to know the people here as family, and because the congregation and the ministerial staff is committed to Christ as a living, personal Savior.
Our ability to study God's Word and witness His Spirit in our lives has been enhanced from our relationships with Sunday School classes, with the Alpha discipleship series and with the small group ministries within the church. The Sanctuary Choir is one of our small groups, if you call 100 choir members small. We work together and receive the joy of being a part of God's message to the congregation with each special concert, as well as the weekly 8:15 and 11:00 Sunday services. We share our joys, our concerns, and our sorrows and always know that our choir family is praying for us and loving us every step of the way.
Our involvement in the membership ministry team gives us the opportunity to encourage new membership in the church. The Bear Buddy ministry at Irving School has touched our lives deeply, as we have the opportunity to develop relationships with children at one of the neighborhood schools. Hand bell choir is another opportunity to share the gifts that God has given to us. We pray daily for our missionary partner in Estonia, and our student at Camphor Mission in Liberia.
First United Methodist Church is beyond doubt a group of called people. We have felt the relationships that we have made here to be as strong as that of any family. We laugh at each other's jokes and we cry with our family's grief. We pray for support, and we rejoice for the gladness we share. We feel truly blessed to be a part of such a warm and caring congregation.
